Discovered in Canada by Moravian missionaries in the 18th century and named after the region know as Labrador, the stone is a type of feldspar.
Legend: The magic northern lights (aurora borealis) were once thought by the Inuit peoples of Canada and Alaska to consist of frozen fire. It was believed that fragments of the iced fire fell to Earth and appeared as labradorite. Often referred to as the “stone of magic,” for centuries it has been used as by shamans, diviners, healers, and magicians and all who seek knowledge and guidance form the universe. Labradorite was considered to be a talismanic gem of winter, and in Chinese culture it is a highly regarded and auspicious stone due to its extraordinary iridescence, which is considered to bring good fortune.
Iridescent Labradorite is a highly mystical and protective stone, a bringer of light. It raises consciousness and connects with universal energies. Labradorite deflects unwanted energies from the aura and prevents energy leakages. It forms a barrier to negative energies shed during therapy. It can take you into another world or into other lives. A stone of esoteric knowledge, it facilitates initiation into the mysteries. This stone stimulates intuition and psychic gifts, including the art of “right timing,” bringing messages from the unconscious mind to the surface and facilitating their understanding.
Labradorite calms an overactive mind and energizes the imagination, bringing up new ideas. The stone brings contemplation and introspection. Labradorite is useful companion through change, imparting strength and perseverance. A stone of transformation, it prepares body and soul for the ascension process.
Healing: Labradorite treats disorders of the eyes and brain, relieves stress and regulates metabolism. It treats colds, gout and rheumatism, balances hormones and relieves menstrual tension, and lowers blood pressure.
The crystal operates on and unifies the upper chakras (heart, throat, third eye and crown). It helps with detachment from situations so clarity of spiritual purpose can be achieved.

Cleansing: As a water stone, Labradorite doesn’t shy away from the touch of water and this is one of the simplest and best ways to keep it clean. Simply hold your Labradorite underwater and if needed, use a little soap to cleanse it properly as long as you rinse it thoroughly. This will clear your stone of all that collected negative energy and keep it bright and ready for crystal healing.
